How to Repair Cracked Pavers
How Bad Is the Broken Paving Stone?
Your paver patio in Buffalo, MN is pristine. Gorgeous, and in all ways exactly what you wanted. Except there’s just one, single crack standing in the way!
You certainly don’t want to replace the entire patio. And luckily for you, you don’t have to.
The complexity of paver repair depends upon the type of damage involved, the type of pavers being used, and how your pavers were laid.
Let’s cover each so that you can get a clear idea of whether or not you need to give our paver professionals a call:
- The type of damage. A single crack or break that only impacts one paver is a fairly simple job and provided you have the correct tools, is totally doable for the most part.
- The design of your pavers. If your patio was laid out with a simple, straightforward design, more’s the good news for you. But the more complex the design becomes, such as adding curvature to pavers, or making unique designs and sizes, the harder it is for an inexperienced homeowner to repair.
- How the pavers were initially installed. The majority of paver patios and paver driveways are installed using compacted sand, and if this is the case for you, you’re in luck. Mortar-laid patios would require more tools, and more finesse in order to not cause further damage.

How to Perform a Simple Paver Replacement
First, up, let’s get your damaged paver out. This should actually be a fairly simple step.
Start by softening the sand holding your paver in place, using a steady stream from a hose and a thin chisel or screwdriver to pry the paver up.
Once the damaged paver has been removed from your paver patio in Buffalo, MN, clear any remaining debris, and level out the spot that your new paver is going to sit in.
Be sure to tamp down any added sand (if you needed to add in order to ensure a level bed).
Your new paver should go in carefully. Be sure to space it evenly as when compared to the surrounding pavers.
After this, all you need to do is fill in the surrounding spaces with sand, and give your new paver a couple of soft pats with a rubber mallet to ensure it is secure.
